your preference...AR looks kind of weird without one but I'm not used to the old school XM177s either.

I do use mine when hunting. I lower the bolt gently with the charging handle and pop it fully into battery with the forward assist. it's quieter than letting the bolt slam home with the bolt release.

btw, if there's something causing your bolt to not go into battery fully, using the forward assist to force it home usually magnifies the problem.

This. I don't know that I'd want to be trying to slam home a bolt that won't close on a live round.

I could go either way though. If being the ultimate liteweight gun is your goal then build without it

Also, if your going to ever sell the rifle in the future, it kills the value. The difference in price to buy new makes a standard upper an obvious choice.
