I went to Academy, handed her the gift card. "I'm not sure how much is on it."

"There's nothing left on it."
It was a brand new card and she put it right by her on the counter out of my reach.
I gave her a different gift card that I told her I knew had $50 on it, she used that one...gave me my receipt but I had to ask for my first card back.
Got home, checked Academy.com, yep, $25 balance.
Had this same thing pulled on me at Lowe's last year.

Some days it's like that. I have some good stories that you couldn't even make up.
But I know people who have it worse, so there's that.
But I don't think a wannabe scammer makes me unlucky. She didn't get my money and it might have cost her her job.

The girl at Lowe's last year scanned my gift card and there was a $6ish dollar balance left on it. She slid the card under her register drawer. I said, "Was there a balance left on it?"
She said, "Oh yeah, $5 whatever, You want it back???"
Um yeaaaaah, I do! SMH
