I use a thermometer when I'm smoking something....no other time.

Steak? Get grill fucktarded hot and 45ish seconds each side.

Burger? Preheat oven to 400°. Set stove on high, sear 90sec first side, 60 on flip, 3-4 minutes in the oven with cast iron.
