On today's episode of dumb house stuff, someone couldn't figure out that the ball keep at the top of the closet door is adjustable, so they took the assembly off and removed the guts. Fine, I bought a replacement for $1.77 on clearance. I'll just use the new guts in the old housing. Nope, won't fit. New housing won't fit because it's rectangular whereas the old one has chamfered corners. So I had to cut the corners and file them to round them off.

No biggie, just dumb stuff.

Oh and $120 in new shower valves bc they didn't know how to clock the antiscald devices, so they just removed them and threw them away. And you can't buy them separately.

It’s not that someone removed the guts of the door ball detent - they just fail pretty often. And when that happens the ball gets launched, the spring gets stuck halfway out, and most people mar the door trim trying to jam the door shut with the spring in the way.

I just had to fix the same situation on the rental I’m in. Bought a pair of ball catches on Amazon for $4
