Get down into Chinatown, some of the shops have fake walls, you walk in and they have entire rooms of fake goods.
I went in 2007 on the company dime. I was allowed to bring family with me for free on the plane, but they had to pay for their own room. 2 nights at the Hilton on Times Square was $2k.

I stayed in queens in 2009. I was on r&r. We got a room from some old Korean lady. Reasonable as fuck. Prolly 100 a night. My Yankees tickets not so much. Subway to the rest of the city was cheap and fast. I did try to drink queens until it ended. I was close. I count it as a win.
