what do you guys think on the weight? Based off the description the stock weight on a 19 is 18lbs. That seems like a lot, not sure if thats accurate

. Also wouldnt want the tension to be too little, causing malfunctions. Don't wanna add problems to the mix lol.
What??? G19 isn’t PeRfEcTiOn??? image.jpg

If you really want to stick with a pistol, the S&W M&P 9EZ Shield is specifically made for this situation. Easy to rack the slide, manageable recoil, easy to load the mag.
But it’s only 8 rnds.

S&w shield ez 380
My mom has the EZ 380, got it just before the 9mm came out.
9mm > 380

Edit: only issue she had with it is the stupid fucking grip safety. Her hands aren’t strong enough to keep it pressed while jerking the trigger (I know, right!), so I added a piece of bike inner tube to hold it down.
Works great until you disassemble it for cleaning, and you gotta release the grip safety.

Might want to try a ranger band. Seems like it would be easier to remove and reinstall for cleaning.

Let her shoot it first. She only has to rack it once... lighter recoil springs combined with her age and strenght will lead to limp wrist effect and cause the weapon to not function. If she can't shoot it in stock form get her a revolver or the SW EZ mentioned above

Or 22lr Punch. Supposed to be made just for pistols.
For the S&W 22 Victory, TandemKross makes a loop to mount on the back of the slide to help with racking (stick finger thru loop to pull).
Anyone know if there's anything like that for other pistols? Seems like a useful concept for a SD pistol.

I’m liking the sound of this EZ gun.
She has carpel tunnel & early onset arthritis in a few fingers, while she prefers the push of .45 vs the snap of .380, 9mm, etc, the EZ380 gives her the ability to shoot longer and be more confident in racking the slide. She prefers shooting it with a light on the rail when shooting the snappier .380 HST rounds.

Same concept, exactly. The wider inner tube felt better to her, and she can just roll it down for disassembly.

Pretty sure I’ve seen this same thing for the Taurus TX22.
Fine for home defense and range work, terrible for CCW - but I don’t like .22lr for CCW anyway - unless the other option is a knife, or, worse yet, harsh language.

If you are talking purely home defense and not carry, why don't get your mom a PCC? More compact than a rifle, more stability with a brace, etc. People that don't shoot often, tend to really suck at shooting pistols. You definitely want to get something your mom can be effective with.

Maybe a Scorpion Evo, Stribog A1, or something like that might be a good choice.
