All I do is fix. That is my job. If I have nothing to fix, I can, at my discretion, go help the crews. He was concerned about my spending on repairs/maintenance. I’m at like 80% of budget with October being the end of fiscal year.

If i was looking to be under budget at year end, freaking open the champagne! I've (i don't think) ever seen a company's maintenance dept under budget. This includes BASF, Imerys, Armstong, and others. Maintenance is always (ALWAYS) way over. I mean, Armstrong had 50 year old pumps that cost $150k to rebuild. And they always ran them into the ground.

Next time someone has a question, get a small engine shop estimate for a gas blower rebuild that requires a cylinder and piston. Just the labor estimate will do. Compare that to your hours for a good idea of what your time was worth.

I bet a new blower is cheaper.

Having worked on contract for Northrop, SAIC, and others.... they are all assholes. I love working for my current employer. All the companies I've worked for previously had the Walmart mentality. I.e. make us more money or we'll get someone cheaper (that makes us less money)

No I mean a different job still in civil service. I wouldn't consider leaving DoD.
