I'm thinking about getting a nice 22LR rifle. I briefly considered a Savage bolt gun, but the CZs are orders of magnitude more quality. Am I gaining much by spending ~$50 more for a CZ457 vs a 455?
Not rilly. Plenty of folks prefer the 455.I'm thinking about getting a nice 22LR rifle. I briefly considered a Savage bolt gun, but the CZs are orders of magnitude more quality. Am I gaining much by spending ~$50 more for a CZ457 vs a 455?
Didnt know there was an issue with the CZ receiver groove...so it doesnt take standard rings? Not rilly. Plenty of folks prefer the 455.
Have you looked at the Tikka T1x? It also has a built in pic rail so you don't have to monkey around with the weird euro grooved receiver.
They use an 11mm dovetail groove on the top of the receiver. You can use a pic rail adaptor, but then you have additional tolerance stacking. Not to say that they still won't shoot incredibly well...they sure do, but it's just something to consider.Didnt know there was an issue with the CZ receiver groove...so it doesnt take standard rings?
Its an added expense for sure. Looking at 40-100 bucks more to slap on a decent rail. There are scope rings that will go directly onto the 11mm dovetail too. They use an 11mm dovetail groove on the top of the receiver. There's a stainless CZ455 that I'm thinking REEAL hard about buying. Its an added expense for sure. Looking at 40-100 bucks more to slap on a decent rail. There are scope rings that will go directly onto the 11mm dovetail too.
Id like to get some time behind the t1x. Tikka builds a great rifle.
I like my 457. Id say the biggest improvement with the 457 over the 455 is the 60* bolt throw that allows for scopes with larger ocular bells
Doooo itttt. You wont regret itThere's a stainless CZ455 that I'm thinking REEAL hard about buying.
If you get a 455 I have a DIP rail you can have. That will allow you to use standard mounts. I upgraded to a 30 MOA Area 419, so I don’t need it.There's a stainless CZ455 that I'm thinking REEAL hard about buying.
Eh, I paid $300 NEW for a 455 Stainless. I doubt I'll notice $150+ worth of difference between the Tikka and 455.455 to 457. The 457 actually uses a cheaper receiver and material. BUT, they fixed some issues that the 455 and 452 had. A big one was the bolt throw. Hard to mount scopes, especially with a decent-sized, ie normal, ocular on the rifle as the bolt would hit, therefore, you are left mounting your scope much higher. Also, the 457's come bedded, pillars at a minimum.
The 457 is probably the better option.
You know what is a better option than most? Tikka T1x. About the same price or cheaper as well. More modularity and lights out accurate. I have had most major 22 bolt actions on the market and the Tikka is the first that has not had some killer flaw for me. Oh, and did I mention accurate? It's fun to whip someone with their vudoo 22 with a gun 1/3rd the cost, then they come and want to shoot it and end up liking the Tikka more.

They are around $400.But if the Tikka was $350, I'd buy one over the 455. Always wanted a Tikka. I REALLY want one of thwr Canadian Mountie guns
I love my 457 but your about to talk me into trying an TikkaThey are around $400.
I paid $450 for the base rifle, but I also got one of the first rifles in the US for normal people (non-star YouTubers).
You should. I haven't been happy with any bolt action 22 until the tikkaI love my 457 but your about to talk me into trying an Tikka
Pic rail. And it takes all centerfire t3 stuff. Triggers, stocks, scope rails, etc. Fantastic design.Damnit am I going to end up with a tikka now
Does it have normal dovetail or a pic rail?
