Crap,mounted scope on my Tikka and.......

Question, I checked ,and checked and checked again with so many mounting brackets to make sure my scope would fit as close to barrel as possible. Mounted last night and front objective just barely rests on the barrel.I am not sure if this is bad thing, so I need advice on if this will cause me any issues.

I can slip a piece of paper in but with some resistance,but not a thicker piece of that cardboard from mount packaging.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you will need some kind of minimum clearance.

A business card gap is kind of the standard minimum. Use mounts to center the scope to your eye instead of worrying about how low you can get it.

Thinking back ,if I removed the recoil pad previous owner installed, I can maybe push it forward enough to clear better. Centering is fine when I hold and look through without any change in my grip needed.Eye relief was needing to move forward a little anyway if another shooter has different needs.

You want more clearance. You will notice, that even if you have a business card clearance, especially with thinner profile barrels, the barrel may contact the scope while shooting.

I've never heard of anyone doing this... but how about epoxy bedding the scope objective to the barrel?

I would think you want a little space in between there.

If you can slide the scope forward slightly, and still have good eye relief, that should solve the problem if the barrel is tapered.
