Corroded Ammo?

Probably a stupid question, but my uncle passed over the summer and I have some ammo of his, 9MM some of which is corroded. I'm not sure about cleaning and using it, what can you tell me about this topic?

had some awhile back,took to the Po Po and asked them to dispose of. Steel ammo ,corrosive primers. Was old 9mm Checz ammo

It depends on the level of corrosion, but worst case you could pull the bullets and reload it.

You're probably best off just disposing of it. As was mentioned, the local police will usually do this for you. Or you can just pull the bullets yourself and dispose of the components accordingly.

Shoot it in a Glock. Internet says they will shoot anything, never miss fire, and never break. JK, pics of corrosion would be nice to see how bad it is.

As cheap as 9mm ammo is, I would not chance it.

Now, a few little blueish/green spots on the brass, probably ok... anything that looks like thinned brass- trash, immediately into the trash.

Garbage guys love when people toss flammable and/or explosive materials in the trash...
Just be sure to film it on pick up day... so SET can see it before the flaming truck makes the news.

I guess you could soak in a little cooking oil first... disable the primers. Or gasoline. Whichever.

Given the primers I've seen absolutely mangled in a reloading press (that didn't go off), I have a feeling loaded ammo is pretty safe, even in a trash compactor. Besides, it's 9mm. Everybody knows that's a useless self defense round because it can't penetrate.

As heck, get microfiber cloth and a little mineral spirits. Very lightly coat the cloth, place in flat hard surface and rub the base on it. It only limited to the case head then should not take long. If you see any actual pitting of the brass, discard the round.

I've shot worse. This was also right after Sandy Hook and ammo was hard to find and expensive. I'm not sure if I'd shoot it now that ammo is plentiful and cheap. I'd probably sort through them and pick out the ones that don't look too bad and bag up the worst of them and take them to the police station for them to dispose of. Don't ever throw live ammo in the trash!

I'd shoot 90% of that without a second thought.

Given the pics, I'd shoot it with no worries. Take a brass brush and quickly hit the base.

People throw away bad rounds at the range all the time... and all the trash all gets burned in an old metal 55 gallon drum. Sometimes it pops and crackles a little.
