Considering reloading

I got my Dillon 650 all set up and running 223 if you want to check it out. I got my brass for free, so I'm reloading 223 for like 17 cents a round. But I'm also reloading soft points, which you don't normally find on the shelves for super cheap

we still hand load large calibers for our rifle since we do not shoot them much except for hunting. Dies are like 300 a set

I load 30-06 on my Hornady lock and load if I need a couple hundreds rounds. The brass comes off to be trimmed which messes up my flow. I can't justify the cost of a press mounted power trimmer.

Have you ever tried IMR 3031 in .223? I found a few lbs cheap last summer.

RCBS universal.

I have the APS bench loader and I loved it, but after about 3 passes the APS strips became unusable and I would spend more time taking it apart and fixing it than seating primers. Maybe if I start finding the preloaded primers I'll buy them and use it again.

I prefer RCBS products. I have other brands that I have bought on sale-used, but RCBS has always worked best for me.

All I've used so far is varget and a very little benchmark.

I've got a batch of plinking loads worked up with benchmark for my "match" rifle, but haven't tested them yet. I did load some up with 25grs that shot just under 1moa with my Colt carbine. I got lucky on the recipe, it's the first batch I ever made.

I have a jug of cfe 223 that I haven't opened yet.

Cfe 223 is my favorite 8x57 powder with 170's. It smells a little funny, but I have gotten great results. You will love the way it meters. My go to load is 25.0 Imr 4064 under 55's. It is a warmer load, a it would pay to work up from a starting load.

So I am considering reloading. I have zeroooooo experience doing so. I am looking for actual benefits of reloading here.

I dont want a low end super slow press and tools. I want to be able to crank ammo out relatively quickly to make it worth while. With that, I understand the cost to get started is higher, and therefore the cost to become beneficial is higher and will take longer to reach.

I will primarily be loading 9mm and 223/556. Mostly 9mm subs though... The only other things I really shoot are 22lr and 762x39, so those are out.

So my question is, Should I spend the money, read some books then beg someone to teach me to reload? Or just keep buying ammo...?

It is good to know how to load your own and to have the components in case they are ever needed. With that said, if you are loading for bulk, but not shooting professionally, you probably won't see a cost benefit with how cheap ammo is now.

Ammo is pretty cheap now, but it hasnt always been. Its a good lifetime investment

I do it to get the load I want and it normally works out less that I can buy, it can get addictive
