CCI primers????

I have not used the small pistol primers but I have shot around 400 .45 acp reloads with CCI primers. No complaints. No problems.

Doug.....Yes.....They are very good primers.....But different brands of primers are harder than others...
For example....I use Federal small pistol primers in my revolvers because they are softer and I can reduce the trigger pull and Hammer strike so it is not as forceful on the primer...Great for competition.....
I use CCI in my Glocks and auto pistols because they are harder and can reduce slam fire issues....
Winchesters in my opinion are in the middle....That's my 2 cents worth....
Like Trigger said, there are various characteristics with various manufacturer's primers. I use CCI primers for a lot of what I reload, though, and have had very good performance with them.
Have used only CCI primers for over 40 years. Now I use whatever I can find. My old stock of primers are getting low. Some of the primers I'm still using I paid $6.96 a thousand. Now they're $4 a hundred If you can find them.

Cabela's had good stock on almost all the different CCI primers including the Magnum Small Rifle primers (#450) that I bought today (for AR-15 5.56 ammo). I got a box of 1000 and left five more there. I suspect I couldn't have purchased two boxes at the same time but that's just a guess.
Unfortunately, they were out of Hogdon H4831 powder which I need for making ammo for the 6.5x55 Swedish rifle that my son made for me.

I appreciate that, but the hazmat fee for one pound is about the same price as the powder. It'll be a lot cheaper to wait until the Cabela's near me or another store just a little further away has it in stock. Fortunately, I'm in no rush.

They are my least favorite and last resort although with all primers in short supply if you can find them, buy them. I have always found CCI pistol primers to be a hair on the large size making them a little bit harder to seat using everything from an old RCBS Jr. single stage with a Lee primer tool, RCBS 4x4 Progressive, to a Hornady Lock and Load over a span of 25+ years of reloading. I much prefer Federal, followed by Remington and Winchester.
I picked up two pounds of Hodgdon H4831 at a gun store about 25 miles from home (but along a fun trip for Cindy and me) for $20.99 per pound plus sales tax. No shipping or hazmat fees tacked on. I'm happy.Trigger_1 said:

Yep. However, my first goal is to get out to the range with the rifle my son made for me (based on a Mauser action and a Krieger barrel) and burn some Federal ammo that I have so that I have an idea what the rifle can do with it and then I'll use that brass for my load development.Trigger_1 said:Looks like you got some good prices....Now its time to start loading.....
