What are some good, but budget rimfire scopes? Looking for something like a 2-7x or maybe a 3-9x. Wanna stay somewhat low on the low end magnification and don't need it to go up that high as this will be primarily for my 8-year-old son, and 100 yards is about the max that he'll be shooting from for a while. Debated a 1-6x or even a 1-4x(I have a fixed 4 power scope on the gun now but I robbed it off of my bolt gun and I really like it on my bolt gun so I wanna put it back on that).

Gun it's going on is just a cheap Savage model 62 that I picked up for my son to plink with. I don't really wanna put a $200 scope on a $100 gun. Was looking at the BSA Sweet 22 lineup but don't have any experience with them. I think I recall people liking them though? They have a 2-7x32 model that looks like it would work well, and it's only $60 on Optics Planet. Anybody have any other suggestions though before I snag that BSA?

For 22 I dont think you can really go wrong. I have a cheap Bushnell Banner 3-9 that does the trick. It was under a hundo but idr exactly.

On my 10/22 that I traded - I had a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 2-7x. It was pretty nice for the money. I think I paid around $100 for it and the mount.

Had a friend asking me about a budget scope for his boys .22 bolt action today.

He’s looking for something he can pop squirrels with. 50-100ft in backyard. Any suggestions?

I grew up shooting Marlin 60 irons out to a hundred ... I think less is more starting out. Learn irons first then move into reticles.

I like the Vortex and Nikon for a 22. Doesn’t break the bank and good for anything inside 100.

Optics has a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 3x9 he can have room to grow into for about $170

Dammit! I forgot I started this thread. :classicdoh:

I ended up just buying a cheap Tasco 3-9x32 off of Amazon. Just a basic duplex reticle, gonna set it and forget it and teach him how to use Kentucky windage.

I love these little tiny Tasco scopes that come with a 15mm or 20mm tube on some rimfires. I have a couple of them but they're too hard for my son to see out of. Hopefully with this 32mm tube he'll be able to see out of it easier. I just hope this one is as good as the little 3-7x20 Tasco that I've had forever. That thing literally held zero on my old Rem 597 for 15 years or so.

I think I'm gonna upgrade the bolt .22 scope next to something that I don't doubt he could adjust the windage and elevation all day long on and I know it'll return to zero. I doubt this Tasco will do it, but on a semi auto .22 let's face it, he's gonna be exercising accuracy by volume until his 10rd mag runs dry. A bolt gun will teach him more about marksmanship. I just need to find a better teacher for him for that than me, lol. Or maybe this is a perfect excuse to set up a centerfire bolt gun and take one of @cmshoot classes.

I might still take you up on this offer though. You know what diameter tube that is? I may have some rings I could throw on the bolt .22 and use that for now until I can upgrade it or I feel like he needs to be upgraded. I have a fixed 4 power on the bolt gun now and love it but my son can't see hits with it with a .22 much past 25 yards so he doesn't know where he's hitting.

It's probably 1 inch. I'll check it later.

Got the Tasco from Amazon earlier today. I ordered it on Monday at around midnight. That's crazy fast for Amazon right now. Unlike Optics Planet that I paid $25 for 2 day shipping on and they took over a week to get to me.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. This thing is clear as hell, and feels like a quality scope with a much higher price tag. I'm excited to get it zeroed and stretch not only the scope but also this budget .22 out a little bit. I have less than $200 into this thing as it sits, and I also have a red dot and a dovetail to Weaver/1913 rail mount for it too. I'm planning on making a sling out of paracord that I already have too. Thinking about either selling or returning the red dot and the adapter mount because I doubt I'll ever use it.

I just canceled two Optics Planet orders. They're a fucking joke from what I can tell. Two different things failed to mention on backorder or out of stock or anything. One actually said ships in 3-7 days or some shit idr exactly. I figured that delay was because of Covid. I go back and look a week later and one says it will ship in 25-25 days and the other 29-39 days!!!

Dicks. I just ordered last night and got a shipping “soon” email. I’m afraid to go back and look now.

Edit, nothing new yet.

Yeah it may be months! lol sorry

I opted to purchase from amazon for $24 more dollars and have it in a week or less rather than god knows when...

Only place I could find it “in stock”. I think KAC has discontinued it.
