Ok guys in the next few months my first .30 cal suppressor should be in, during that time I want to build what I consider a great .308 suppressor host. I know you have subsonic rounds that will help to immensely make it more quiet but my big question is will a standard direct impingement gas system AR-10 reliably cycle subsonic ammunition or would I be better off just buying a threaded .308 bolt gun?

Yes I'm also looking at grabbing a 300 blackout upper, but I'm trying to find the quietest "full power" set up possible. I'm already going to have my .30-06 threaded but I know that will be supersonic unless I work some magic with hand loads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And in case it matters a Silencerco Harvestor 30 is the can that will be used.

Or if you know of a decent .30-06 subsonic load recipe let me know, from what I have seen there seems to be to much case capacity to safely make it subsonic.

do yourself a favor and get a bolt gun, its nice to not have action noice.

But don't buy a remington, Remingtons are like sick ducks. Well I can;t remember the rest of the joke, but your mother is a whore. @Bypass

Kinda the reason I went with the 716 even though I dislike pistons. With the 4 position gas system I can turn off the gas and shoot it like a bolt gun, or open it all the way up and cycle subs. Really though, since I am limited to 300 yards I do most of my shooting with a 223 bolt gun as it is much more economical.

Kinda my situation as well. My home range is currently limited to 200-225. Once I get out and clear some more brush and small trees out of the way I will have it open to a hair over 400 yards. Already have it all metered off and trees marked just have to get out and do it. Last time I cleared it from the 100 to 200 mark I got covered in fricken chiggers! So I'm not to excited about running back out into it until it cools off some more.

On a side note I wanted to get that new Ruger precision rifle at some point in the 6.5. Can you load 6.5 subsonic or does it only operate properly in the supersonic ranges?

Don't get too hung up on subsonic rifle rounds. Subsonic rifles are fun for about a magazine or two, and then the WOW wears off and you want your bullets to go fast again. I haven't shot subsonic rifle at all this year and don't really plan on it either. If I want to wow people I can shoot 9mm or 22 subs.

Good point. I'm new to the whole suppressor game as this and the little 22 warlock are going to be my first cans and I have never even shot a suppressed gun other than a old DEA agent I used to know had one of those MP5 SDQ's back when. Man that thing was quiet but I didn't get to shoot it, he just shot it with us there, I was a kid then.

So with what you are saying is something like .300 blackout something that gets old pretty fast?

Yeah, I have owned 3 BLK rifles. 2 SBRs and a carbine. None of them kept my interest very long. I found that even with them I was shooting supersonic ammo more often than not.

I've been considering something similar, except the Tikka T3 tactical over the 700.

Yeah, I love suppressed bolt guns. I would go Tikka or Savage over a 700 as well. Honestly I have owned the new 700 and I thought it was a piece of shit. My FCP-K Savage is twice the gun my 700 AAC-SD was.

Do you hunt though? I was looking at the BLK thinking it would make a great quiet close range 100 and under deer cartridge.

And on that note I agree, my old 1969 700 is light years better than the most recent 700 I bought in 2011, night and day difference in fit and finish.

I hunted with a BLK all last year. I realized that I was spending a bunch of money to shoot a cartridge that can be outdone by 7.62x39 or better yet 30-30.

This year I am using a suppressed 30-30 and a suppressed 7.62x39 SBR AR......mainly the 30-30.

Yeah I used to be all about Remington, now I won't buy one. Freedom Group really killed them.

Ok now you are talking my language I want a Marlin 336 to be threaded but thought I would run into trouble with both the front sight base and the mag tube. How did you circumvent those two things to get it threaded? I would much rather run a suppressed .30-30 than a 300 black out

I ditched the irons and went scope only. I had Dobbs Defense cut the barrel down to 16" and shortened the mag tube to match.

Shit a 16" 357 can even best the blk in supersonic loads, and heavier subsonic loads.
