Another OAL question.

Does the rail count for OAL? Not for sbr purposes if that even matters but just for a +26" oal measurment for a vfg? Example rail is longer than the barrel.

I would safely assume no. I am pretty sure they solely measure off the barrel length

I'd write a letter to find out. I've thought getting a letter regarding using a permanently attached bayonet to reach 26"OAL. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

It's going to depend on what you are building. Rifles have a minimum 16" of barrel. Pistols have no barrel minimum/maximum length. Shockwaves & Tac-14s are 'other' firearms & are subject to minimum length requirements.

Its an ar pistol. With a 12" rail.

I think it falls under an 'other' firearm in this case. AR-15 style, 26"+ OAL with a vertical foregrip.

Oh, and the rail may need to be permanently attached.

Agreed, it would need to be permanately attached.

The above image is a shrouded 10-22 barrel that would allow you to run a suppressed SBR without having two stamps.
