Does the rail count for OAL? Not for sbr purposes if that even matters but just for a +26" oal measurment for a vfg? Example rail is longer than the barrel.

It's going to depend on what you are building. Rifles have a minimum 16" of barrel. Pistols have no barrel minimum/maximum length. Shockwaves & Tac-14s are 'other' firearms & are subject to minimum length requirements.

Its an ar pistol. With a 12" rail.

I think it falls under an 'other' firearm in this case. AR-15 style, 26"+ OAL with a vertical foregrip.

Oh, and the rail may need to be permanently attached.


I'm not a lawyer, I am an FFL/SOT.

I think it would have to be permanently attached to count to overall length but even then I am not sure.
