I like variety. I shot some 70gr Barnes TX bullets outta the 5.56......they were ok, but I really like the idea of more frontal area when hunting. It's not a high volume gun. I have 500ish assorted rounds for it, and that'll keep me in business for a while.Legit, if it's what you want, there's not any real reason to not other than cost.
Some of the newer 5.56 70+gr stuff hits damn hard though and performs nicely out of a 10.3" bbl
10.5" There's no way I'd go 16"/16" 300blk ? Yeah you're dumb.
Am I the only one on the planet that put a 300Blk together to run supersonic ammo for hunting versus using the 5.56?
I know energies are very comparable, but I just like the idea of hitting hogs and deer with a 30 caliber bullet versus a 22 caliber bullet. Energy doesn't always tell the whole story as far as effectiveness goes...do I have the dumb?
I really don't have any desire to use subsonic ammo in it, don't even have a single subsonic round for the gun.
I'll be leaving to go hog hunting next week, and I'll be loaded up with Underwood 115 grain Controlled Chaos bullets. 2350fps out of a 16" barrel, I should be in the 2100+ range with my 10.5".
Yeah, I agree. I'm taking the 5.56 and the 300. I'll be using Hornady Superformance 55gr GMX's in the 5.56---They've done really well on hogs in the past.I personally like the 5.56 round, and would have no problem shooting hogs with a 69 grain HP bullet going around 3000 FPS. With a 10.5" bbl, shooting a 115 grain bullet, around 2100 FPS, I think your giving up a lot of velocity pushing a projectile w/ the same grain weight as a 9mm bullet to kill a pig. I want my bullet going fast possible when it hits. Just my 2 cents.
Blow balls. They are awesomeHeathen. 7.62x39 ARs are abominations.
It’s not that 556 or 762 x 39 isn’t enough, is just some variety. All you whippersnappers need is a 3030 LOL. That’s boring as fuck.I just don't see the hype on 300 blk out. 5.56/223 and 7.62x39 is plenty for hogs in GA. If i get into deer hunting maybe I'll do a 6.8 pistol with brace.

I'm in a definite 336 phase right now. Every pawn shop I pass I go in and look for old 336's, Glenfield 36's and Otasco's.30 30 lever action lol
Just fucking with you, I'm too young to be called a whippersnapper unless you put young in front of it
EeeegzacklyAh, read the op wrong. I'm a big fan of 300 blk supersonic and not suppressed too, so that makes two of us. It just makes sense, you get pretty decent 30cal performance out of a very compcact package.
Sure there's x39 but the AR mags are stupid and unreliable, plus shooting dirty ass tula/bear out of a short barrel is annoying.
Different BCG, wonky mags....6.5G for the win if you're switching it up that much.
All of mine have discharged every round I put through them. Can your AR cycle a full mag of rusted Tula with the receiver packed full of ham sandwiches?
Not to discredit all the time and effort you put into this statement. But the deer I shot with the 300 blk didn't flinch, it only flopped.6.5 is fine too but I think most of the hoopla of that round versus 6.8 was the fact that - for a while - all you saw was 18”+ barrels for the 6.5 round (which improves the ballistics in comparison to the more common 16” 6.8 barrels). I actually think I’d go 224 Valkyrie and 6.8 (they use the same wonky mags and bcg) vs 6.5 because the 224 appears to outperform 6.5 at longer distances. But you could go 6.5 and x39 to save on equipment , I guess, since those two use the same mags and bolts.
AR Performance states on the website that 6.8 outperforms the 6.5 in shorter distance (under 200 yards?) shooting though I don’t think it matters that much.
In the 6.8 vs 300 discussion, all I will say is that the deer seem to run a bit more after being shot with 300 in my personal experience. I like the speed and ballistics of 6.5/6.8 a lot more than the 300. But like I said earlier, 300 will get the job done. I would feel much more comfortable shooting a deer at 300 yards with 6.8, 6.5, or 224 vs. 300 or x39.
Also who here is being cost conscious now that they have that nightforce money?

I went for the neck shot. Instant drop and death. All my shots are behind the shoulder, lower third heart / lung.
Head / neck shots may have different results.
