Thinking an air rifle is a good idea after this weekend of putting 250 pellets down field with my Crossman PC77 PumpMaster Classic air pistol. Drilled a little hole in a stump and put tips of 1/4" sticks in it and shot at them from 32 feet from my deck. Great way to pass the time at the camper.

LOL. Air guns you gotta love'em. A couple of fellow Range Rats and I found an outdoor range about 40 miles from here and are heading out there this week for some shotgun and rifle shooting. I miss living out in the country since moving to suburbia but life goes on.

Dave, what is your opinion of the Ruger Explorer Break barrel air rifle? I've seen them for pretty cheap, so, are they cheap?

mukwah, I think it would be a good starter gun. I have never shot one but here is a link below that had a review on it. The other Ruger rifles would make nice starter guns as well and can be upgraded later with a Vortek spring kit. They turn the guns into really nice shooters.

You might want to look at this rilfe for a starter rifle. It is based on the Old Beeman C1 which had a cult like following. I have one and it is one fine rifle. The Bronco was redesigned, and brought back to life by Tom Gaylord, (air rifle expert). The gun is a light weight carbine and has a lot of great reviews. Here is the link.

Have to admit after getting my Crossman Pumpmaster I am really enjoying air guns, also getting interested in a blow back gun and liking Dave's PPK video he posted in another thread. I figure I have room for firearms and air guns just not sure if my budget does. :-[

Several years ago I tried this as a way to get rid of squirrels. I seemed to miss more than hit the target. When I did hit a squirrel the pellet seemed to just bounce off the fat little buggers. I quickly sent the air gun back while I could get my money back. Yall have gotten my interest started again!

That's why I choose to use a .22 rifle to dispatch the garden-eating rabbits in our yard (out in the country). I don't want to just make them mad or, worse yet, just wound them.

Dave - is there a (presumably a multi-pump) air rifle available that would provide enough energy to cleanly kill a full-sized rabbit at up to 100 feet and not cost an arm and a leg? I'm guessing that I would want a .22 caliber pellet for maximum effect as opposed to a .17 caliber. The idea is to be able to dispatch the rabbits with a bit less noise than with my .22 rifle but I still want clean kills. What would you recommend?
