80% Lower Jig or Drillpress and router

Hi all,

Having recently moved from California to the great state of Georgia I have a bit of a problem. I left my 80% jig with some friends to finish their ARs but I have some 80% lowers of my own I need to complete. I can get my jig back but I'll still need the use of a drill press and a router. Anyone around the Kennesaw area willing to help me out?

Welcome to GA. Now, you can just buy cheap lowers ready to go. Andersons are around 50 bucks and compared with drilling your own, I'd prefer the Anderson.

Do you have to use your own tools for this kind of thing? I'm a bit fuzzy on the official wording.

yup you are correct. to complete these you are supposed to use all of your own tools and jigs. no sharing according to the ATF

I was literally just reading your post in the other thread. Reading that makes sense- just don't be in the business of cutting metal and the tools are fine to use.

Oh, I know but I already have 5 or 6 80% lowers though Don't want them to go to waste!

you can use tools from your neighbor as long as he or she is not a machine shop.
I can loan (not rent, as that would not be legal) my Jigs, I just can not do the work for you at all.
I can point and advise I just can not touch at all.
This is the way the law reads as I do not use these things to make a Living like a machine shop or gun store (if I did then not legal).
The ATF laws change all the time and I keep reading the new ones as they come down and if I am sketchy on any I write the ATF myself and get Clarity on them.
I have not had or seen any new laws in a while so all should be good.
Build parties should not be allowed in CNC shops but if two or three buddies got together at ones house and used hand tools that one had all good as long as each one Builds and finishes their own with no help other than Questions and answerers and pointing (kind of like watching a YouTube video and doing the steps while watching the video, this his how one ATF agent explained it to me).
Now you guys interpret the ATF rules the way you see it and if it differs from mine still all good.
(edit) I would like to add that if you are not comfortable with Building your own and not sure of the laws then just do not do it, Simple answer.
I Serial each one I build so I do not have to explain to an officer why I have a rifle with no serial number (perfectly legal BTW, I keep a copy of the ATF rules with me Just in case before I started Serializing all of my lowers) but I have never been asked yet so not an issue yet.

Done with Milling Machine and my first attempt.

Now note that I had to do some hand filing to flatten out some of the drilled holes so the trigger/hammer would actually go into the lower. @Balthaz work looks freaking awesome compared to mine.

OP, you could consider hitting a pawn shop in the area and picking up tools on the cheap. I am sure there are plenty of shops and tools are usually main staple. Just need to get your jig back.

@Balthaz that question was more directed towards the op. I have seen/ heard the horror stories of milling your own lowers. I guess I just like to take the easy way out and buy them ready to go. But to each their own

I'm trying to avoid buying the tools right now. We just moved cross country and with the movers, vehicle transporting for 3 cars, car rentals, flights and setting up a new house our saving took a real beating.
