I'm looking at the bear tooth bullets 405gr and 355gr 44magnum bullets.

Both pass the stability test at 1000fps according to online calculators.

Anyone ever loaded some super heavy 44? What powder did you use?

I've never loaded 44 mag, but used to load up some 45 Colt for deer hunting. 400 grain cast bullets with H110, or W296 (same powder). They shot really well out of a 5.5 inch Blackhawk.

Well I've found one load for 355gr bullets that uses a powder I can actually order that is in stock.

only problem is that I will have to go below the minimum charge to keep subsonic, that and it is a slow burning powder, which is not as desirable for suppressed shooting. Any opinions on 4227

POWDER: IMR 4227
355gr bullet
COL: 1.710"
MIN LOAD: 17.5, 1,125fps, 28,100 CUP

Sorry man, I don't do .44 magnum. I am a .45 caliber guy, .44 caliber bullets would be an oddball size for me to keep in stock. If you are looking to shoot subsonic, Trail Boss is always a good choice, but doesn't throw very well. Revolvers don't do well suppressed due to the gap between the cylinder and forcing cone. Let us know what you results, always looking to learn!

It's a 44 mag rifle.

My friend has a casting set up for 45, so I do think I'll have the dies for it soon.

Is 250gr 45acp worth chasing? Or stick with 230?

230 is perfect for suppressing or defensive work. You can load them for under 7.00 a box even buying the projectiles. Heavier is not always better. There is a point where energy=mass x velocity tipps in favor of the lighter bullet. I shoot mostly 200 grain lswc in my .45 autos. Kicks like a kids gun and leaves a nice big round hole in the paper--or armadillo. Lots of powders work really well for either of those bullets.

I'm just trying to get as little noise as possible. I'll have to experiment.

Where are you getting lead to cast?

I have about 80 lbs of ingots left that were cast from wheel weights at a shop that I worked at years ago. As long as you stay subsonic you are good. I have shot standard 230's from a suppressed .45 that was backyard quiet.
