So, if ammo cost were NOT an issue, is 300 BO or 5.56 a better choice for a primary defensive rifle?

7.62x39. Sorry. I had to. IV8888 did a good video on 7.62x39 vs 300 bo. Anyhoo....at close quarters I'd rather have more lead. I would take the 300. I only have one 5.56 and it's my pistol.

Yeah, I'd take x39 over both too. We agreed, mark it down and erect a monument.

At the end of the day I'm still sticking with 5.56 though. I have more confidence in it's reliability in an AR, I have tons of ammo, and it provides more than enough stopping power.

Is an AR pistol not for close quarters? Looks like you already chose 5.56 and not 300BO or 7.62x39. :boink:

I wanted to build a cheap one. 400 bucks with delta team tactical. A 7.62x39 would have cost me more. It's my toy. I like it when my ears are ringing and fire shits out the barrel. If shit went down here I would grab my 7.62. That you can count on.

if ammo prices were not an issue, i would go with a 9 to 12” 300 sbr that was proven to be reliable...preferably with a quality can.

i am assuming by “defensive” you mean something within 150 yards.

Nah...x39 isn't really an option because
1. I cant shoot steel case at the range, and if I'm spending money for brass then 300 BO is cheaper (I realise I said $$ isnt a concern, but that was to weed out the "300 BO is sooo expensive ")
B. I like not having to worry about finding and buying special mags, or using AK mags as the AR mag insertion is what I want.

Excuses. Go with 300. More lead more dead.
