.17 WSM, anybody have one?

Thinking about picking up a bolt gun in .17 WSM. I've been interested in them for a while but never picked one up because I was worried about ammo availability and was waiting to see if it would take off of just disappear like some other "wildcat" rounds. The Walmart by my house seems to always have .17 WSM ammo. I'm just not sure that it's any better than a .22 WMR, but I can easily find the WSM ammo compared to the WMR ammo that's harder to find.

I've been looking at the Savage BMAG XP. It comes with a Bushnell 4-12x40 scope with a .17 WSM specific ballistic reticle. I normally hate Savage rimfire rifles because of the magazines and the weird magazine guide but this has a rotary magazine so hopefully they don't have that weird magazine guide with the rotary mag.

It's a hell of a lot faster and flatter shooting than 22wmr.

The savage still feels really cheap IMO

There is actually an AR15 style gun chambered in it IIRC

I have had a BMAG for 2 years now. American Eagle is making ammo for it and have seen plenty in WalMart and Academy. It is a hell of round. Let me know if you want to shoot it some time.

Depending on the load they are pushing 3,000+ FPS.

Got a Volquartsen in .17WSM in my safe right now. Belongs to a student, I'm doing a little work to it. It's very nice, we were tinking steel at 300yds with it.
