This is not entirely true. There are a few other key variables that play into "proper" or "ideal" projectile expansion, like weight and shape/angles/geometry of the front of the projectile. Too much velocity has also shown a lack of expansion in many many tests.

In that case, and in my opinion, terminal ballistics would be much more important than muzzle energy. Slap some +P's in a 5" barrel and all the sudden you have your smaller package with 30+ rounds, flatter shooting, more manageable recoil, more accurate, (marginally) better terminal ballistics...

Agreed. Why would someone need the maximum amount of muzzle energy possible anyway? I don't see the appeal.

I don't follow your logic here. Is the only thing in question muzzle energy? Go buy a 458 socom or 300 win mag upper then. Do you want a cheaper to shoot AR, cross gun mag compatibility, home defense with much less wall penetration or a shorter barrel without going deaf? Then go 9mm. Do you want...

I am chiming in late here so not sure what your setup is, but if its canned, you need this setup. Otherwise a 308 spring...
