OK.. So usp. Lol

Glock just isn't my thing, sigs are overpriced, while I like Walther's alot I am leaning towards metal frames guns. And if the usp was designed for the .40 I may have to look into it
Non-Tupperware models are all gay.....
just cuz you like the black dildo does mean i do.

I think the USP 45 is the best version...shoots soft and holds 12+1...but even in .40 it's the best IMO. It's big, but it will always work.

Police trade in USP40s are cheap. I got my Stainless USP45 as a police trade in with 3 12 round factory mags for $560 shipped. Throw some new springs in and you have a nearly mechanically new gun...

We have a filter in the works that changes the word "M&P" to "Sigma Plus".

Heresy! Break the glass and perform emergency exorcism with required smack to the forehead- "Devils Out!!!!"

Don't forget the Berettas, the venerable 96 is an excellent full size choice if you have man hands, and the PX4 series is well proven in a more modern design and I believe it also comes in a compact as well as full size in the 40. Shot both series and have no complaints.
I did forget to see if you can hold it sideways while shooting though.

Havent tried the apex on an M&P, liked it as is, but have heard they work well .

I carried my dads M&P 9L with an Apex kit for a week while visiting him earlier this year. The trigger was amazing when pressing it, however it had no noticeable reset which has prevented him from using it as anything other than a classroom gun.

I was impressed, but the lack of a noticeable reset killed it for me.

Oh, and OP the answer you are looking for is Gen 2 Glock 23 which as luck would have it are everywhere cheap as fuck as police trade ins. I paid 230 for mine last October at GTs Glocktoberfest.

Softest shooting 40 I have ever owned.
