I'm also in the market for plate carrier and plates. I've been looking at the Banshee Carrier...seems pretty solid.

I want to order from AR500, but it says there's a 17 week wait time....that's a bit much for me...lol

If you dont wanna wait then avoid First Spear as well... There is no wait time listed on the site but they still take about 8 weeks. If you call, they will tell you 8-12 weeks, but its not listed online...

I have the Eagle Industries LE plate carrier. 10X12 ESAPI plates. Soft armor sides for now as i haven't picked up any side plates yet.

Good rugged carrier, but i did upgrade the shoulder straps to a wider more comfortable version.

Do you want a slick one or one with molle?

I want one that is slick but has a way to snap a chest rig to it.

That way I can:
-Wear just the carrier with either soft or hard plates

-just a chest rig

- or like @Leshaire wear the plate carrier and chest rig separate

I may be wrong, but from what I understand the actual carrier is made by condor. I've heard they make quality stuff for the money, but it is still made in China

I love my set up really man. Hell ive even worn my plates to workout under my hoodie lmfao. No one would ever notice a thing. I like that ability a lot personally. I dont see ANY situation for me to EVER wear a chest rig other than all out SHTF.

I like the idea of being able to conceal soft plates under my work uniform if things start getting bad and being able to add hard plates too if needed.

My ideal carrier would be something mostly slick and concealable but has Velcro on the front and back and a way to attach some mags to it. That way when it's not being used for a specific thing I can leave a couple mags on it for if I have time to put it on if I hear a bump in the night. And Velcro so if I ever wear it for work outside my shirt I can put some medic patches on to identify myself.

Not a bad idea. Im sure they are available, and if not its nothing any old embroider cant do.

I thought about buying a slick carrier and adding velcro and the absolute minimum to attach a basic chest rig to it somehow. I figure for a bump in the night, if I have a few seconds it be easier to have armor and mags without fumbling with a separate carrier and chest rig.

Idk about everyone else here but a bump in the night is no time to sling on gear for me personally. First thing I do is grab the 41 rounds of ready to go 762x39 and point it at the door, which is the only way to that end of the house. Just me though. Id hate to be caught slinging shit on myself and get blasted, rather than cut down on time and just point a rifle at the door lol. Its also not something ive thought through very thoroughly.

In a perfect world Id have my suppressed AR9 SBR there to A: Put wider hollow point holes through a bad guy, B: not blow out my ear drums, C: Not go blind, and D: Not kill all my neighbors as well... That gun just isnt reliable enough for me though...

It would depend on the situation obviously. But if I feel I have the time I like having the option. Or if it's some commotion going on outside where I really have a few seconds then it's even better.

I did tell my wife if someone's breaks in I'm going to strip down and get myself to at least half chub then attack him like a lunatic and hopefully scare him away.

Gun up first, then gear up. If you function as a team, everyone guns up, then one covers while the other gears up. Once that person is gunned AND geared up, he covers while the other gears up.

We do that as part of the Reaction to Vehicle Ambush drill in my Combat Carbine Tramwork class. The way the drill is set up:
Drivers engages with handgun while passenger accesses primary and kit.
As soon as the passenger is kitted out, they engage.
When the driver hears the passenger engaging, he drops back and accesses his primary weapon and kit.
Once the driver is kitted out, he engages with his primary.

I liked that one. Although, I was a little scared for your truck lol.
