I have an older generation of the sparc. I'm kind of 50/50 on whether I would buy it again.

My original unit had an issue where it wouldn't turn off. I sent it back in and got a new one. Vortex CS is outstanding as many people know. Unfortunately many people know because they've had to use it.

My philosophy going forward has been to stick to primary arms or save the money to move up to aimpoint. I've not had the best results with $200ish red dots.

Same here, I called and was told that they stay on when the battery gets low. Replaced the battery and it works now, but the battery wasn't that old, so curious to see how long this one lasts.

I like the smooth design of the optic. I would be in for a good user in depth review though.

a bunch of the reviews say vortex makes a stout optic. There was even one there they took a Sparc 2 and put it in a fire, then dumped it into water, shot it with a .22, and a bunch of other stuff and the dot stayed on. Then they got a new one under warranty.

It wasn't the low battery feature but rather the optic wouldn't shut off no matter how long the button was held down. I tried two brand new batteries.

Understood, just stating what happened in my case, and honestly, I'm not sure I believe it's battery related. I've since read that the same thing occurs with bad contacts, so who knows.

On a side note, the other thing I'm not a fan of is how easily the optic can be turned on when in a case; maybe it's my particular case, but it seems like the Gen 1's can be activated pretty easily
