I usually have a pretty good instinct for this. Does anyone else believe that right now is a pretty good time to buy some more ammo/mags/guns? Prices are at 5 year lows (aside from .22), and there's a bit of anti-gun sentiment circulating through the media, but no pending legislation and little support from Congress. We know another scare is coming. Retailers are heavy on supply right now. Now is the time to buy some more.

I'd agree...if you plan on flipping...

Or stocking up. I have been telling my wife for the last 2 months if Hillary is nominated she will win, if she wins whether she actually tries to do a gun grab prices are going to skyrocket.

Either way now is the time to get what you want/need.

I am hoping that by the end of the year I will be able to pick up the four guns left on my "need" list. Only 1 of them would really be threatened by another ban though.

One thing I learned during the last shortage was that caliber consolidation may not have been the smartest move. I got real sick and tired of showing up at Academy or Walmart to find the 9mm and 223 shelves completely empty. I was always able to find 38 , 7.62 and 40sw. Who knows what the next big glut will be. I can shoot 5 different handgun calilbers now and just as many rifle choices. I'm thinking a great single gun solution would be A Glock 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel and a 357 sig barrel.

My solution has always just been to have enough on hand that I don't have to buy. I consolidated calibers as well. I was tired of having a lot of guns that got little use, and that I didn't really love shooting. I probably sold 85% of what I owned and used the cash to buy ammo for the calibers I kept. Best decision I've made.

With the mood of the country I think you should buy and but regularly. But to your point, I always scoop up ammo when it is priced normal. Hi capacity magazines as well.

If you reload it takes a long, long, time to recoup your investment in tooling shooting .223 and pistol calibers. The advantages that you gain are consistency in rifle ammunition and huge cost savings on larger calibers 7mm, 30 caliber, etc. If I advised a newbie it would be to get a couple .223/.556's and a 9, then load up on mags and ammo. Maybe a larger centerfire if they hunt.

All my mags are "just right" capacity....though I do need at least one 90 round "just right" drum.
