Carry a pistol on your person in a holster that has a retaining mechanism and put the rest in a safe place that is inaccessible to little ones.
That's my usual answer to that problem. But the last time I carried my fully loaded G19 plus TLR1s in my Safariland retaining paddle holster, clipped to my pajamas, they fell down to my ankles. Maybe I should wear a belt with my pjs. Lol. There's pros and cons to everything.

Having a 5 month old daughter really makes me think about this stuff more and more. Until her I had a Glock on the coffee table, Glock on the night stand, FN on the table next to the counter, 12 ga..... You get the idea. I've been trying to figure out a way to keep one at the ready without compromising her safety. I can dig it. I want to actually see it first though.
I was in the same boat. My solution is to carry when I'm home (I did that anyway) so the gun is always in my control. My AR is hanging up in the closet out of his reach (4 feet above the floor) with an empty chamber and the safety on. I figure he would have to get it down then figure out how to chamber a round and turn off the safety.

Yeah, normally I have my EDC in my pocket around the house, with one of my ARs put up high in the closet. But I can also appreciate the added security this could provide against little grubby hands. But I'm still skeptical as far as how well it works. Lots of things look good on paper. If anyone picks one of these up, I'd love to hear their impression.

I just don't trust any mechanical system like that if I need it in a hurry. Even with practice it would be an extra step and I know my wife won't practice with it.
