That's honestly part of the reason I didn't buy a VP9. I really like them but I like being able to buy cheap glock mags and even cheaper Magpul mags.

But a VP9 is still on my want list.
Glock mags are the only mags I've worn out.
It's one of the reasons I stopped using most Glocks.
To me the only models they have worth choosing over others guns are the 10mm models.

Dang. I've broken some mags but the only one I've ever worn out was for a Ruger MKII.

I would love one of the longslide 10mm's.

I've worn out and replaced mag springs on Glocks, SIG's, Beretta's, 1911's, and more. Also AR mags and I've had AK mags that used to work go bad on me. In all those cases, a new mag spring and I was back in business. Sometimes I have to replace a baseplate or follower as well. I keep spare mag springs for most all the guns I own.

With a Glock mag, it is possible to eventually separate the polymer shell from the metal lining, under long term heavy-duty use. I've done that, too. In that case, mail or carry the mags to Glock and they replace them for free.

Eh, I don't shoot enough to wear any out. And even then, I can buy a lot more glock mags for the same price as sig or HK mags. I also live 4 miles from glock and get my mags rebuilt every year when I go in for a "check up"

I say buy as many as you can afford at good prices. Quality mags for popular platforms never really "loose" value. I mean, i have way more than "enough" AR mags, but if I see a good deal, I will buy more.

Convert 'em to moonclips!

Nah. Too much trouble for not enough benefit.

Seriously though, I buy mags when I see a good deal and when I have the money. I think I have somewhere around 200 1911 mags (been buying them for about 10 years now), 100 AR mags, only 50 AK mags, but I've only recently gotten back into AK's, and about 40 229 mags. I only have a few mags for my other pistols/rifles that I wouldn't grab in a SHTF situation. I don't feel the need to buy a shit ton of mags for guns that won't see heavy use should the need arise, like the OP said.

Six per firearm mostly because my cases have six slots and my OCD won't stand for seeing them empty. To shoot GSSF you need six, so it makes sense for the Glocks. As far as extras, like @2001SportTJ I buy them as I find deals whenever I come across them. How else can I charge more than retail prices on ODT and make a healthy profit? LOL.

thunk of it this way.... there are plenty of mags put there when you can scavage all the bags and ammo after people go a looting.
