So a number of people I love and care for have recently taken on the task of regaining their cardio and respiratory health and they have decided to stop smoking. It's not been easy obviously, but they're powering through it and getting better everyday. Has anyone had amazing success with stopping this unhealthy and expensive habit? What were your secrets to success?

I chewed Skoal Fine cut for about 7 years. We moved to Europe, and it wasn't available so I quit. lol I did go through a short phase when I tried to chew cigarette tabacco...didn't work. I've never had a desire for it after that. After about 3 months every last craving went away. The thought of it now makes me feel nauseated.

The only thing that works is will power..or get dropped onto a deserted island.

True story. My father stopped smoking and did the same thing back in the 60's. Doctor told him to go back smoking 'cause the weight gain would kill him before the tobacco.

I think he finally quit in the early 80's after the quadruple bypass. But quitting has amazing benefits. He turns 88 in September.

He just stopped cold turkey. Old school that way.

I have an occasional cigar.

Most any occasion will do!

I quit years ago by cutting back on the number I smoked gradually. Started at a pack and a half, when I got to 5 or 6 a day I quit.
Glad as hell I did.
Missed it for a while, now I don't like the smell at all.

Best of luck to all you and to Dougies family that are trying.

I'd love to quit. I did good for a while with one of those electronic things. But it broke and I fell back into cigarettes

I tried a few times..... Once for 2 years but a death in the family led me right back.... I hate the smell but can't kick the nicotine. It's sad!

Quit cold turkey. Didn't sleep for two weeks and gained a few pounds, but it wasn't too bad. You really just gotta want to stop and decide to do it
