would a Remington 700 chambered in .300 blk be a good deer gun?

also would the magpul short action magazine retrofit (drop in) part be a wise upgrade if you want to take larger mags as a last ditch shtf gun. (kinda like how my ruger scout was the only.rifle I would have...)

I just want to get opinions if this is a good idea.

and yeah,I know about commonality of ammo, but that is what reloading dies are for

It would make more sense for a "only rifle" to get a .308. Then you can shoot subs or have a full power rifle.

Save some money and get the Ruger American .300 camp rifle. short stock, threaded...accurate enough. and come in FDE...which automatically adds fun points

see I did the while ruger scout thing. loved it, and it killed me when I sold it, 800 rounds 4 poly mags and belt pouches when I moved back to ohio, (needed the money for a down payment on a house, and I didn't have any more room in my car) if I could find the zq1 308 ammo I wouldn't be having this discussion now would i?

Remington/AAC offered a Model 7 (shorter than a short action 700) in .300Blk. They ain't hard to find.

I've got the Remington/AAC .300Blk and a 16" threaded barrel. I'm having it put together, then drop it in the MDT Chassis is have en route. Lightweight, side folding and adjustable. It will be a combo deer rifle for my daughter and a suppressor host for some of the classes I teach. The MDT Chassis takes AICS mags.

yeah, sure if I still lived in ga. ffls around me charge 30+ for transfers. (cuz ohio is an NFA state, but the large cities are anti-2A)
