Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm digging the new short barrel, lightweight offerings out there. Has anyone shot the Ruger? It looks pretty slick for $400.

I only own one bolt action rifle...a Remington model 7 in stainless/black chambered in .243. It was constructed way before freedom group bought the company and QC went to hell.

I haven't paid much attention to ballistics but my 6.8 AR seems to kill things faster.

If I were looking for a bolt action now I would check out a savage or a Winchester. Or maybe even a Tikka, Sako if I were feeling spendy.

What are your purposes? Something that suppresses nicely and is easy to carry around?

The only thing I have in similar size is a 7615P. I've been collecting parts to set it up like this one. It's not a bolt gun, but the pump action makes it a good suppressor host. I only wish it were a different caliber to make it more useful subsonic.

Yeah light, short, and easily suppressed. I have a tikka but it's set up more for prairie dogs and bench shooting. I want more of a walk around gun. I'm just curious about the quality of these things given the price.

My bolt gun will be a Savage. I'm sure that was helpful....
I know they shoot well, I've just always been disappointed in their craftsmanship. Light, thin bluing or park, machine marks, burs on metal, just lower rung looking quality. Holding a savage rifle just doesn't feel like holding quality.
