The Wall Street Journal ran a story about 4 or 5 people doing this & finding out they were half siblings. Everyone was stunned. They kept pushing & found out all their parents had been involved in affairs in the neighborhood. Oops.

Really not surprised. There's also at least one story of a fertility Dr using his own samples for decades I think? So in that area there are a lot of people who are related and don't know it. The issue further along than that is unknowingly inbreeding. Imagine finding out your wife is also your half-sister.

The folks doing these ethnicity tests are blowing up a lot of "family stories". Personally, I find that hilarious because so many people are so invested in them.

Got to take them with a grain of salt, though. One dude took three tests (from three companies) each showed different mix of DNA/origin.

Identical twins took the test (IIRC 23 and me) - got different results.

I think the DNA dudes at Quantico could pinpoint who your great granddad did and in what position, but these retail places are a bit sketchy.

Not surprised. None of them reveal what sources they are using to make the classifications. I mean, the Bosporus "divides" Europe & Asia. But humans have been going across it for untold generations. At some point Somme employee just picks between SE European & NW Asian & writes it on a form to send the client.
