Makes you stronger for sure. In both good and bad ways. Not sure I'd change it...I'm sure it helped mold me. But my son and my brother's kids won't have that experience.

That's the rub. I see my childhood the same way. I know kids that had it worse. At least from my perspective they did.
Hell I had a damn good shiner when I spent the night at my friend's house and his dad grabbed my chin to force me to look at him. And he says something to the effect of, "I'd have beat your ass too" or some shit. And I thought THAT guy was a bigger asshole than my dad. So him and his wife got divorced I believe when he went to jail for child porn, and he was the church photographer. And my friend's sister was killed when she and her friend hit a deer one night. My friend and his mom are GREAT ppl but yeah, he's one of the ones I think had it worse. He probably thinks the same about me. It's all perspective.

Absolutely. I saw no good qualities in him. My dad has issues but he does have a good side also. I just wish there was a middle ground.
I feel this way too. But it makes it hard to raise my son. He's not going to see the real bad side, physical, etc. But I have to make sure he knows there's repercussions if he doesn't keep straight. I wasn't near bothered about things that happened in my youth until our son came along and started getting older. He'll be 10 this year. But honestly he's been SUPER EASY. I hope it stays this way lol...
