If the "Limitless" Drug We're Real....

By that I mean empathy, love etc.

Or would it push us completely in the other direction? The direction of the mystic, the Maharaj.

Could we exist in the middle?

Phenomenon with John Travolta always makes me think about this. I think the question becomes "would it change human nature?" And I believe the answer is no. Of course the scenarios are all hypothetical, so the potential outcome will be whatever you want it to be.

In theory it should do neither. The key would be that both the left and right sides of the brain be affected equally be the drug. If the drug stimulated only one side the brain the effects would be lopsided to one extreme or the other.

i do not believe a higher level of intelligence or clearer thinking would automatically give rise to super smart sociopaths

I believe so. It appears evident in humans already to an extent. Don't most people with very high IQ's struggle to empathize with others and understand other's emotions in general? I am curious now. Looking for an article or more info on a correlation here.

That has a lo to do with the fact that many folks with high IQs are left brain strong. They have Spock like logic and reasoning ability but like empathy and other attributes associated with the right brain.

I think of some of the highest functioning as far as analytics goes (some of the autistic) and there appears to be a disconnect with empathy and emotion there.

I disagree. From a purely logical standpoint there is no reason for life and it is not necessary to the universe.

I've never seen limitless, but I've seen Lucy..the soundtrack is nice. I think different people would respond differently to that sort of stimulus, but I think people probably fall within one of a handful of categories, and individual responses would be relatively predictable. It's also likely that people would shift back and forth between "vulcan" and "mystic". The human body does seek equilibrium after all.

No. Her political views are much more anarchist actually. She actually describes herself as an anarchist, but not of the violent variety, more specifically as institutions based on non-hierarchical free associations. To your surprise I'm sure, that's kind of to the right of many on here.
She also maintains some liberal ideology, but it's a real mixture of philosophies.

Her's are obviously (I hope) non-violent, but she doesn't believe manufactured systems have any chance at maintaining order, peace, or happiness.

She has some views that people would call liberal, but only because they are typically scooped up by liberals and tossed into their bucket.
