I just thought I'd start a thread to help separate some productive ideas from the not so productive.

I know that there are several people on here that have been active in the protection and enhancement of gun laws, and there are surely some great, underdeveloped ways in which we can help to safeguard and promote gun rights.

Shouting down anti-rights people, pro-gun bumperstickers, etc are about as ineffective and divisive as it gets, but what has "worked"? What's resonated? What have you done that has made people think a bit differently about gun ownership than they may have in the past?

Take people out shooting. Teach them about gun safety and responsible gun ownership. Show them that guns don't have a mind of thier own.

Admittedly I don't do much besides talk big on the enterwebs. I used to do more but at this point I'm more into preparing for the inevitable.

lol. Thats an admirable way, but you'll get fucking clobbered by the single issue groups once its your turn. It is decent branding though, helps make it look less like the toy collectors club.

this can be effective in numbers, but usually doesn't happen until too late. I've manned the phones yall should be calling and during one GA legislative session i only counted 6 phone calls for the major pro gun bill that year.

Legislatively:
1. write you state & federal officials with polite letters.
2. Join the NRA, GOA, and GA carry
3. show up to rallies, protests, and buybacks
4. Don't dress in camo or combat gear at the rallies, protests, and buybacks

Personally:
1. take non-shooters shooting
2. Don't get too political with your non-shooting friends, they don't want to hear about Fast and Furious or how you think some shooting was fake, etc.. etc...
3. don't let your kids kill themselves or their friends with your guns, but make sure to teach them the hobby.

I support the NRA, take people out shooting, and write e-mails. I also think sites like this one help with the cause as well.

Last summer at my parent's house I finally convinced my wife to come out while my brother in law and I were shooting. I thought it would be fun to put 2 pounds of tannerite out in the field and hit it with the AR. Her response, "Uh yeah, I'm going back inside." "That reminds me of war and makes me incredibly sad."

I failed.
