So I've put my Glock 19 gen4 through a thousand round test without cleaning. This "torture test" occurred towards the end of August as I took "Fighting Handgun" training at Tactical Response in Camden, TN. Temps were in the upper 90º's and according to the "feels like temperature" it was well over 115º F some days. It was a two day course that went through multiple drills (I'll go into more detail on the training drills in a separate review of the training in another thread). One drill had us throwing our weapon down on the dusty, dirty, gravel riddened ground, pick it up, rack it and commence engagement with the target.
The ammo I was using was Fiocchi 124g FMJ brass. I selected the ammo because I had read a few decent reviews and it was on sale for $220 for a case (1000 rounds). I had my reservations, but I thought I'd take the chance and see how it would perform. Much to my surprise it performed exceptionally well. I found one round out of a thousand that had a blemish, a crimp in the brass, and it fed, fired and ejected without issue.
I'd give most, if not all the credit of the performance of the gun to Glock, more than the ammo. The Glock did not fail. Not once. In fact due to it's reliability and the need to practice the "what if's", I was forced to insert snap caps periodically throughout my mags to provide the experience of a misfire / failure to fire.
My Glock 19 gen4 has replaced my other EDC, Glock 30SF. I didn't think anything would replace my Glock 30SF, but I've grown so attached to the Glock 19 and it's reliability, magazine capacity, accuracy, and the way it feels on my side.
I've been very fortunate to have visited the Glock U.S. HQ's in Smyrna, GA many times. The level of customer service, attention to perfection and the confidence they have in their product is infectious. Taking a Glock in for service is akin to taking a high end luxury car in for routine maintenance. You get the royal treatment. Glock will replace EVERYTHING that shows any signs of wear with brand new components.
I carry a Glock because I bet my life, my family and friends' lives on it being reliable and accurate. If something should ever occur that would require me to have to defend my life or my family or friends' lives, I have absolutely 0% doubt that my Glock 19 will not fail. Having gear that is reliable is one less thing to worry about if something should ever occur. I can focus on mindset and tactics and not worry about gear and equipment.
I would highly recommend purchasing a Glock, especially a Glock 19. I would even more highly recommend carrying a Glock as your EDC. There's a lot of great handguns out there, for my a Glock in my choice.
