Shooting my 10.5 upper with a Faxon barrel, I apparently had a squib load. Round stuck in the barrel just after the gas port, but still under the gas block. Apparently had enough gas to load the next round and "boom!" Fire engulfed my hand. Gas block split in half. The barrel did a great job of containing the mess but did bulge and is trashed. Needless to say, I'm happy I still have a left hand, if not worse. Definitely will be getting another Faxon barrel to replace as I see this as a testament to their steel. Have definitely heard of much worse cases.

Ammo: WPA Polyformance 55 grain FMJ 223. Now to see if I can get reimbursed for the new barrel and gas block.

Question to you fine folks. Was this just a random bad round, or should I be concerned that there are more like this? Considering that I have a few thousand rounds of this stuff, hopefully the whole batch isn't trash.

I shined the barrel up just a bit to show the bulge.

I'd see what the manufacturer has to say about the ammo. I'd probably shoot it, but they may want to replace it

I agree about contacting the OEM and include lot numbers of ammo round came from if you can. I did a quick Google search and did not see any glaring results.

Just be thankful it's not Atlanta Arms. If their ammo did that and you contacted them, they'd kindly reply, "Thank you for contacting us, now piss off."

Glad you're OK. Let us know what you hear from Wolf. I know I'm not the only other trader on here who has a butt load of that WPA stacked back.

Just got off the phone with Wolf. Actually quite impressed. Talked to actual u.s. tech person. Sending a return label for the all the ammo and they will replace. Also sending a check for the new barrel and gas block.
Damn, kudos to them! Definitely impressed. @Leshaire see what happens when you're nice to the CSR? Lol

That is awesome. I guess I know what ammo I will be sticking with.

Like everybody else said- I'm impressed with their response. I'm glad I have more Wolf than Tula... I don't generally shoot a lot of it, but at matches were I can't pick up my brass (and it's a hit-the-target match, not a bulls eye match) I always take the steel cased stuff.

I was on the phone for only 5 minutes. Email with return label and instructions for refund in my inbox a couple minutes afterwards.

Out of how many thousands of rounds? Plus their customer service seems to be legit
I choose not to run steel case rifle ammo anymore. Its been nothing but problems for me, and apparently others as well. I have a K or so of it that just sits there and ill prob never use it.

Yeah stick with the ammo that causes squibs.....

Most of cheaper new ammo can from time to time as well as most all reload, GA Arms included.

I'll take it :)
