Favorite Solvents

Well, what are they? I've always liked Sweets 7.62 and Butches Bore shine. They cut better and faster than any of the Hoppes stuff I've tried.

Tetra makes some good stuff, but I haven't used them for years.

I love Slip2000 for lubes. Just used the EWL on the AR. I haven't tried any of their solvents though.

Now it's frog lube. Might be fireclean for my semi-autos soon. After the vickers test... Yup

Is Frog Lube also a solvent? I've never used it, but I've heard it gets gummy.

I have some of their solvent. To be honest I haven't really noticed any solvents that are head and shoulders above the rest....but I haven't used many.

You will notice a difference with Butches or Sweets. 15-20 minutes maximum in your bore. Beyond that and they could cause etching. They cut copper like sob's.

Ballistol on pistols, clean and lube. Rifles - Hoppes down the bore and high temperature lithium brake grease for lube.

If you use Sweets or Butches bore shine, make sure to run a few patches behind it soaked with peroxide. You don't want it to stay in the bore. This isn't a perfume like Hoppes, it doesn't smell nice, but it cuts the everlasting shit out of copper fouling.

It's always nice to know that straight 30w Mobil1, and lithium automotive grease makes a hell of a lube,...if the zombies come I have plenty of that on hand.

If you don't follow the directions it does. Otherwise I have no issues with my bcgs getting gummed up, or any of my pistols having issues. Mineral spirits to remove any petrol solvents, heat up with heat gun or hairdryer or whatever, apply paste and after it all cools.. Wipe off excess (cuz yeah, there will be some). It gets slick to the touch, and I don't have to worry about using gloves with chemicals and residue on my clothing when handling my son.

FL does it all. And I don't heat the metal as directed either.

I have a jug of the stuff and am too cheap to try something new until the jug is out.

I rarely use dedicated solvents - barrel break-in and maybe after a lot of shooting.

For typical CLP, I have moved to hornady one shot. It's an alcohol-based solution that doesn't seem to attract all of the poop when applied to an AR (that shits where it eats lol). Also, it and frog-lube got the highest marks for long-term corrosion resistance of any CLP - and I don't do FL.
