Deal or no deal?

I've heard that these things are actually pretty nice rifles, although I don't have any first-hand experience with them. For ~$300 OTD it seems like a solid deal. I'm sure the scope is pretty shitty but that can be replaced later on if you decide you like it and want to keep it. At least it comes with a scope from the factory so you can shoot it out of the box and get your feet wet in the bolt action game and see if it's something that you like or not.
You can get .30-06 loaded to the mildest 308 or way way hotter. More versatility
The only advantage between the two (as explained to me by my Dad) is that the .308 is a short action (stiffer) while the .30-06 is a long action (less stiff). This is coming from a guy that is a life long hunter and at the same time a bench rest guy.
In the practical world of a $300 bolt action, I can't see action stiffness making any difference. Although when us gun folks buy up every single available round of ammunition (think 2012-2013), .30-06 will be easier to find than .308.
And for what it's worth, .30-06 is a more capable round. That assumes you reload and are willing to work up your own data. I don't think you'll see a huge difference in the published loading data. Some difference, but not a huge difference. As in, not keeping a bullet supersonic past 800 yards difference.
I shoot .308 just because I already have tons of it & I don't want yet another caliber. If I had 30-06 ARs I'd have tons of that. I highly doubt you could do anything with 30-06 that I can't do with .308.
I would get one in 243 or 308 if a youth or lady was hunting with it. The LOP May be too awkward or short for me to shoot comfortable and accurately.
