Bullet Identification

A good friend of mine has this old bullet and can't recall where it came from nor anything about it. I tried to seach the numbers and didn't come up with anything.
It is about 8" in length.
Numbers read: Lot 80 23140 94-1943 SG 37-MMM5181
I am guessing it is from 1943. Wonder if the silver tip and the hole in the bottom, if it was a tracer.

I'll have to put a disclaimer on this- I have no idea what kind of bullet that actually was...

But I remember that the copper rings were put around bullets as gas checks- seals to keep the gas behind the bullet/projectile.

The hole in the bottom was for the same reason- the hot gas "pushed" on the sides of the hole to open up the bullet skirt to seal against the sides of the bore.

All that said, I have never seen anything like that picture before. Those could easily be for another purpose.

Armor piercing 37mm anti tank projectile, used in the M3 gun, loaded as 37x223R in the brass M16 cartridge. Phased out after WWII.
