I've been researching these for some time. Does anyone have firsthand experience with them? The price point is the big draw to the units, but the video capture, gps, and Wi-Fi capabilities seem superfluous for my use.

I've looked at several NV scopes before, and kind of decided that I need a monocular... PVS14... which is just too dang expensive.

Same. The pvs14 would be ideal for my purpose...but damn, that price. The versatility of the unit is exactly what I want and I may just have to save up. I really wish ATN would make units of their xsight and flir scouts that didn't have all of the gps, wifi, video capture crap. I get the marketing capability and functionality for hunting, but it seems that it would't take much to offer units that negated those features and offer an even more budget friendly option.

I agree... Now, if somebody would combine FLIR and NV into a single scope, I'd be rolling pennies to buy it.

I bought a cheap used ATN handheld monocular- it's about the size of a VCR from 1985... it has a built in IR illuminator (Gen 1 of course) and works OK so long as the IR is turned on- I can make out animals in the wood line about 100 feet from the back of my house.

I have one and have played with it some. The IR it comes with is rather weak and needs to be upgraded. I walked around the bike paths at night with just the factory scope set up (no gun) to get a feel for it. I was planning on trying to get it out this weekend on our property and look for the 2 hogs that live there. Also, get an external power pack (I have 20,000ma setup) as it will eat batteries quick. I think I paid in the low 4's for mine new at Academy Sports.

I have one, and for the money, it's great. Get yourself a good IR illuminator. Amazon sells some for cheap, like 40 bucks, that are great. Ill echo @Allsmiles on the batteries. It chews em up.

Probable better than the shooter. Easy to adjust the POI in the scope by going to the correct screen and making adjustments. Here is the battery pack I got and it has come down about $10 since I got mine. I like the fact that it has a power % instead of just lights. Just know that it takes a long time to charge up. I put mine in my pocket with a long micro USB cord to the scopes external power port.
