Regardless of penetrating capabilities, I don't want to post up in my bedroom with an AR. My pistols fit nicely in the night stands I have. Cannot say that about my ARs, even my 10.5". Plus pistols are easier for my wife to handle, and that's another reason.

I don't use 5.56 for HD. I have several handguns throughout the house for that.
