    G-Shock revival

One of the great things about these watches is the availability of replacement parts. A quick scan of Ebay netted new buttons, bezel, and strap. New bezel installed

The metal inner bezel was a little beat up. 150 grit followed by 400 grit cleaned up the edges and brushed finish.

    G-Shock revival

These things are fairly easy to tear down. The most difficult part about this one was replacing the buttons, which requires removing digging into the guts. The buttons have double o-rings for water resistance and tiny c clips on the pins - which require a bit of patience to remove and replace. I...

    G-Shock revival

I've always been a fan of Casio watches, and I've had several models over the years. The older model G-Shock watches appeal to me because of the solid features like solar charging, atomic clock sync, 200m water resistance, ability to survive abuse. More importantly, the case sizes are reasonable...

I should add - Casio still sells the original model DW5600 for around $40. This updated version is the DW5610 and costs around $80.

I lost my original model a few years ago. This is the modern version, nice because it is unchanged in it's style, but is solar powered and auto syncs with the atomic clock radio signal.

It's interesting, and I like the lumed pinstripe. I'm not sure if I would like the elastic band as much as the heavy nylon NATO/Zulu straps. Honestly, I wouldn't mind trying one, but I'll wait until I can find a cheaper knockoff.

If I'm understanding the design correctly, this band stretches like a heavy duty/high quality ace bandage.

I read mixed reviews on comfort. I'm interested to see what you think after a week or two.

I don't have a before shot, but here's a stock photo of the watch, a Seiko SRPA85. ***EDIT - I bought this one from 1776. I added a photo from his ad.

Finally got it back together. New bezel and bezel ring, chapter ring and hand set. Not sure if I'm done with it.

    Which company makes the strap?

Isn't it goofy - how excited you can get about a stupid piece of nylon.

Yep, anything that contributes to distracted driving. my company doesn't even allow phone calls with a hands free device.

I haven't been a big fan of smart watches in general, though I like the variety that's starting to emerge. These hybrid watches do a good job of not looking too techy. I'd definitely be cautious with that water resistance rating. The ratings are vague and very much like TV screen sizes...

It has the most important quality (for me) in a watch: I like looking at it. I've been trying out different bands and it's pretty versatile - looks decently dressy with this setup.
