Anyone here doing this conversion? Kinda thinking about getting the jig $35 and cut off saw $30 to start doing it. I have a TON of. 223 brass, but almost no .300. I'd like to shoot my .300s more. @Liberty @dial1911 @War Paint

I’ve done a couple hundred. It’s really more trouble than it’s worth.

Check out Global Ordnance. They run some pretty awesome sales on 300blk regularly. If nothing else it'll give you some cheap ammo and then you can use the brass. I think I paid less than $0.50 per round on the last sale that they had for Sierra Match King's(loaded by Australian Munitions though).

One other thing to consider is that the head stamps will be wrong... doesn't bother some folks. I can't stand it.

And I'll make you a deal on some of that Global Australian .300 BLK. Just need to make sure I have four cases. I'll sell one for cost.

I mean, at your $65 set up cost, you could go buy 4, 20 round boxes of Rem UMC and have 80 rounds to shoot and 80 pieces of brass to work with...

How many rounds of .300 do you plan to shoot in one range trip?
A bunch. Lol

I recently gave the factory headstamp .300 blk brass that I had to another member here due to minor reloading irregularities. I don't shoot .300 blk, but I have formed a pile of 8x57 cases from .270. The main issue that I have observed in cutting down brass and reforming it is that the new "neck" can be quite thick and or inconsistent, especially between cases of different manufacture. I believe that cutting down the case necks to achieve a consistent and within s.a.m.m.i. guidelines would achieve this so long as the same brand cases were used. I also use to uniformly and properly anneal the cases. All that being said, don't take my generic advise as guidance and consult a reputable published source. These days I just buy some factory ammo or brass, usually PPU for international calibers. Having children, if I die unexpectedly, I don't want my offspring sticking a 8x57 in a .270 and having a tragedy. Others may consider the same scenario with a 30 cal bullet in a .22 bore. Thus when my formed loads are fired, the cases are crushed and discarded. I think that the conversions are way more work than they are worth, especially with today's availability and pricing.

I never thought about the head stamp misleading someone. To me, it's obviously .300. But if one of my kids down the road brings a friend to shoot and they don't have the experience with stuff like this, it could be bad. Is Global Ordnance reloadable brass?

Based on looking at the fired brass after tumbling, the Global Ordinance black brass seems to be brass that is somehow blackened. The longer I tumbled it in walnut media, the black seemed to lighten and normal brass color started to show.

(Damn, @Laufen is going to have a field day correcting the grammar in that sentence.)

Having kids changes lots of things!
